Spicy Mixed Seafood

Every other weekend, we go to the fish market to buy seafood for two reasons: 1) we love it and the variety of it and 2) we are avoiding pork and beef. I'm sharing a very simple and quick seafood recipe for the busy wives/moms out there. If you're not a fan of spicy food, just omit the chili pepper and you can still enjoy this dish. Preparation time is 5-10 minutes and cooking time is 5-10 minutes.

Ingredients
  • 1 bulb garlic, chopped
  • 1 piece onion, sliced
  • 1 small carrot, cut into batons
  • 1 bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • 2 leaves of leeks, cut diagonally
  • spring onions
  • 5 pcs. shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 pcs. squid, peeled and cut into rings
  • 2 tbsp. oyster sauce
  • dashi
  • chili pepper
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1/4 cup water

Procedure

Sauté the garlic and onion in medium heat for about 1-2 minutes. Turn the stove to high heat and immediately add in the veggies - tomato, bell pepper, carrots, leeks. Add a pinch of salt, pepper and dashi granules. Stir fry for about 2 minutes. Add the shrimp, squid, oyster sauce, water and about 3 pinches of chili pepper, depending on the level of heat of the chili powder that you are using and on how hot you want it to be. Stir for about 3-5 minutes or until the shrimp has turned to orange and squid has lost its gloss. Do not over cook the seafood, as they will be tough to chew when overdone. Finally, sprinkle it with spring onions and it's finished!

Serve with steamed rice and enjoy :-)
